Beware the secular future (especially if it comes from Europe)

This guy is worried that creepy European ideas about human rights will take away your right to be an idiot.  What, you don’t believe me?

So, back in June, the Council of Europe proposed a declaration that:

authorities in member States to promote scientific knowledge and the teaching of evolution and to oppose firmly any attempts at teaching creationism as a scientific discipline.

Note the wording “as a scientific discipline“.   It doesn’t say that you can’t talk about it, that you can’t go to church.  It acknowledges that creationism is religion, not science, and should be treated as such.

Well, our Baptist buddy in Florida thinks this is just another sign of the evil secularist conspiracy.   He also knows nothing about biology.

That last sentence is truly amazing. Evolution is simply based upon “facts,” they claim—a claim that would make most evolutionary scientists blush.

Um, I’m not blushing.  Fortunately, he doesn’t go on to explain himself. The Council’s conclusion begins thusly:  “the denial of evolution is particularly harmful to children’s education.”

Seems obvious to, well, every legitimate scientist in the world.  Baptist Boy’s reaction?

This resolution is so extreme that, at first glance, it appears to be a farce or parody. Sadly, it is not. This is no joke. This is the shape of a secularized future.

If this is the “shape of a secularized future”, count me in.  Have fun at the Rapture, Buddy.

Of course, your Baptist buddy probably thinks the Rapture can be proved scientifically too!

  2. Porootchick Says:

Obviously you do not count on rapture. What is your hope?
There are many valid arguments against evolution, too many to list here. One is the second law of thermodynamics, which directly contradicts the evolution theory.

LMFAO!!!! See this, but given your comments, I don’t think you are likely to be persuaded.

My hope? Let’s see…I hope for a beautiful fall day this weekend to go out walking with my daughter. I hope for the pizza to still be warm when it arrives. I hope my program on the TiVO doesn’t erase itself.

Oh no. Not the sceond law again. Hey Porootchick – I’m in need of a laugh. Explain again how the excond law “disproves” evolution.

  6. serious liberal Says:

Come on Porootchick – post your knowledge of the second law. I’ve not had my lutz yet either.

  7. evanescent Says:

PMSL. Just when I couldn’t laugh any more at creationism… If there is a god then he created creationists for the sole purpose of amusing those who use their brains. No offence.

    Porootchick-
How is believing in the Rapture ‘hope’? From my point of view, the end of the world isn’t something to look forward to with gleeful anticipation. Is this one of those death cult things I just don’t get?

The point is that Evolution is the best theory we have at the moment, and the one that most nearly coincides with the facts extant in the archaeological record. If the Second Law conflicts then we at least have evidence that we’re not all the way there yet.

What we’re not ding, Porootchick, is taking an idea with no evidence behind it except the weight of faith, and trying to impose it on others as the law. It’s your law. It’s the law of a lot of people. But the best thing about Evolutionary Theory is that we acknowledge it as such.

    Humility, anyone??
